Snapshot Backups for the Tank File System


The Tank file system, hosted on a Dell Isilon storage platform, provides robust and high-performance file storage for research and academic computing needs at the University of Chicago. To support data protection and recovery, the system uses snapshot backups as its primary mechanism for safeguarding files.

What Are Snapshots?

Snapshots are point-in-time copies of files and directories on the Tank system. They allow users to recover files that may have been accidentally deleted or overwritten. These backups are taken automatically and require no action on the part of the user.
