Starting in February 2024, domain authentication will be more strictly enforced by GMail and Yahoo. To mitigate the impact to the university's email reputation, the UChicago Mailing Lists began implementing improved subscriber bounce detection in November 2023.

The improved detection will now accurately detect subscribers who forward their mail to a secondary destination address that is bouncing. As a result, the software will begin flagging more subscribers as bouncing. List owners are notified of bouncing subscribers at set thresholds. List owners are also notified of automatic unsubscribe actions taken against bouncing subscribers at set thresholds.
