Purpose
This Control sets the requirements which govern Enterprise Data Center protection of power and related cabling
Scope
This Control applies to the University Enterprise Data Centers. The scope includes:
- Utility power
- Redundant power
- Backup power
This process offer the following Enterprise Data Center NIST level unless otherwise specified below:
- 1155 - Moderate
- Hinds - Low
- POD-A - Moderate
- POD-B - Moderate
- POD-C - Moderate
Policy
- All Users, AUTHORIZED or UNAUTHORIZED, will comply with these requirements
- All Data Centers hosting data with compliance requirements will implement redundant power
- All Data Centers hosting data with compliance requirements will implement UPS backup power systems
PROCESS
Redundant power
- Enterprise Data Centers will be supplied by redundant Utility power feeds
- An Automatic Through Over (ATO) will be implemented on the Utility power feeds for 1155, POD-A, and POD-B
- Cabinets supporting critical equipment will have two power feeds from alternate transformers
- Enterprise Data centers will have a central UPS system
NOTE: Hinds is serviced by a single Utility power feed though the UPS feeds redundant transformers and power feeds to the cabinets
Backup power
- POD-A Data Center will maintain N+1 Generator capacity
NOTE: 1155, Hinds, POD-B, and POD-C are NOT supported by backup generator

PROCESS Review & Approval
Management will perform an annual review of this PROCESS. Based on the review, management may change this PROCESS to reflect its intentions and compliance requirements. Both IT Services and business users will be informed of any changes to this PROCESS and will be provided with a revised PROCESS.
