Link UChicago Box Documents to Canvas Modules for Instructors

As an instructor, you may have documents that are stored on UChicago Box that you wish to add to your Canvas course content. You can easily add these documents by using Modules and creating links. Instructions on how to do this are below:

  1. In your Canvas course site, navigate to Modules and select the Plus Sign (+).

    Plus Button in Demo Module

  2. From the Add Item to Demo Module drop-down list, choose External Tool and then choose Box. Select the Add Item box when you are finished.

  3. In the pop-up window, choose the document you want to link by selecting the appropriate option button on the right. In the Choose Access Type drop-down list, you may choose either People in this folder or People with the link.  (People in this folder is the more secure option, but you must grant users access privileges to the folder; for more on access privileges and permission levels in Box, see the Invite Collaborators to Your Content and Permissions for Collaborators section of the UChicago Box Quick Start Guide.) Then select the Choose box.

    Choose Items from Box

  4. You will be back on the Add Item to Demo dialogue box. In the Page Name field, type a new title or descriptive name if you would like, then select the Add Item box.

  5. The Box document is now linked. To give students access to it, publish the link by selecting the crossed-out circle so that it becomes a green check mark.
